Christmas Shoeboxes

It's that exciting time again when there is a real buzz in the worship area at High Street as a large group of volunteers work long hours to sort, seal and pack the colourful and full shoeboxes ready to send on their way to Romania and Belarus. There's a wonderful feeling of love that's around and packed into each box. So many people, of allaages, join in buy filling a box with suitable items for a child, a family or a baby. We can only imagine the excitement when the children receive these boxes and open them, very likely the only Christmas present they'll receive this year.

On Monday 14th November the Worship area was full of people of all ages and boxes for the dedication service where the boxes are blessed ready to start their journey. This year we were joined by Brownies, Guides and BB who processed in with the boxes they had made.

Rev Melanie Reed led the service and we were very fortunate to have Dave Cooke, the person with the original idea of sending a shoe box 25 years ago, sharing with us. he told us about one of his experiences going out to a war zone to distribute boxes to children living in terror.

There was a wonderful outpouring of love as lots of the congregation came forward to touch the boxes to bless them.

On Tuesday 22nd November the large cartons full of boxes will be put onto a lorry to begin their journey. This is another wonderful event when the fire fighters from Witney come (with their fire engines) to load the boxes onto the lorry for us, then we all share in a hot drink and mince pies.

A busy, exhausting couple of weeks, but so worthwhile. We wouldn't want to miss it.
